Lady Knights Celebrate Season of Success
The D.H.A.A. softball program held its annual awards dinner at Siricos Catering hall on Sunday November 7, 2010 . The dinner ,very much like its season, was a huge success. The evening was highlighted by the presentation of the first ever Karen Barone Memorial Award. Karen Barone was a neighborhood staple, known for her generous giving. Weather it was financial, or the giving of her time, Karen was always doing something for her community. She was always doing for the neighborhood schools. The Knights softball program is small, but quite formidable. The Lady Knights put three teams in the St. Anselm's league. In varsity division play ,the defending champion Lady Knights were unable to defend their title, losing in the first round of the playoffs. In rookie division play, the Angels, coached by Joe Amatore surprised everyone. The under aged little dynamos won the championship after a successful 9-5 regular season. In Junior varsity play the Little Lady Knights, coached by Dan Fogliano ,became the first team in Knights history to finish a season undefeated, winning both the regular season and the playoff titles. The JV team then completed a very successful fall ball season.
The dinner got under way with the rookie division champions receiving their championship jackets and trophys. The coaches then gave out two team awards. The rookie Angels most valuable player was given to Kayla Hankash for her outstanding play this year. The coaches award was then given to newcomer Keara Donahue for her unselfish play. Next, the JV division champion Little Lady Knights received their championship jackets and trophy's. The coaches then awarded the most improved player to Marissa Di Camillo for her clutch hitting and her tremendous all around improvement. The coaches awards were awarded to Elizabeth Tesoriero and Brigette Cannata for their selfless play and their overall contributions to the team. For the varsity team, the coaches awarded the most improved player to Alexa Rivera. The coaches award was given to Joanna Casalla, a staple in the Knights organization.
The last awards of the night were the directors awards. These awards go to the girls who best represent the Knights organization and what it stands for. They are based on sportsmanship, determination and integrity. The winner of the Santini Allegretti Memorial award, from the Rookie Angels, was Bianca Cannata. Although she has been with the organization for a while, this was her first year playing softball. She is a very welcome addition to the softball program.
The last two awards of the night were given to the Little Lady Knights dynamic duo. The Victor Allegretti memorial award was given to Olivia Hankash. Next up was the first ever Karen Barone Memorial award. The first ever recipient of the award was Abigail Fogliano. The Barone family was in attendance, as son Joseph gave a special speech about his mother. Then husband Joe and daughter helped with the presentation of the award. It was a very emotional evening with few dry eyes in the house. These two girls have been a dream for the coaches of the Knights organization. They have represented the Knights for a while now, with a fierce determination and the highest of integrity. They have also won championships in other sports. The D.H.A.A. would like to send our warmest wishes to the Barone family. We would also like to congratulate all the winners and thank everyone in attendance.

Ada Fusco got things started with a base hit and then with one out,the girls produced six hits in a row. Stephanie Ferrara capped things off with a game tying hit. With two outs and the bases loaded, the Stingrays had a chance to take the lead, but just fell short.Alexia Poulas(3 hits) was the hitting star of the game.
